How To Support Local Businesses During Closures

Small businesses across America are already feeling the financial crunch from coronavirus restrictions that have millions of people staying at home and avoiding unnecessary shopping trips. Even though businesses have had to limit their hours or close completely, there are still ways to help keep your favorite restaurant, coffee shop or hair salon during this time.

Buy Gift Cards

Want to give some cash to a small business right now? Buy a gift card. Even if you aren't buying anything else because you're stuck at home, you can give your local shops or favorite restaurant a vote of confidence by spending even $25 on a gift card to use later, when life returns to normal.  A lot of salons are also offering gift cards, root touch-up and nail polish removal kits, and DIY pedicure kits. This is another great way to treat yourself and help out a small business!

Leave Good Reviews

If you can’t get out of the house to order take out, you can still support local businesses by leaving positive reviews online! Reviews will help businesses online presence now and after the stay-at-home ban is lifted.  Don’t forget to review your real estate agent too!

Buy Locally

This won’t apply to every local business, but many small businesses are coming up with new and clever ways to keep operating without their brick-and-mortar locations staying open. If a favorite shop of yours has an online presence, see what they’re selling on the net and buy away! You’re probably saving a lot of money because you’re eating out less, might as well splurge on some new books, handmade goods, or gifts for loved ones!

See If Local Fitness Studios Offer Online Classes

You can still work out at home even though the gym is closed! A lot of local gyms are offering Zoom classes included in memberships instead of going to your normal classes.  [solidcore] is offering video classes for $15.  You can also take advantage of classes from Burn Boot Camp and Elite Custom Fitness.  Even though the studios are closed, you still can get your sweat on and chat with your friends from the gym!

Eat Take Out

While some local restaurants have opted to close their doors, a number are still open for takeout and delivery ― even spots that aren’t typically. If you have a solid source of income during this time, it might be worth taking the night off from cooking once in a while to support workers and business owners in your neighborhood who aren’t sure how they’re going to get through the next few months.

Say Thank You!

When you do go to the grocery store to buy what you need, be sure to say thanks to the employees who are hard at work stocking shelves and working the registers. It can be easy to forget that many of those employees are working overtime to keep their store clean and full of the food and supplies customers need. A simple thank you can go a long way to spreading a little gratitude and goodwill.

Over the next few weeks, make sure you are keeping your small businesses in mind! Whether you are ordering take out or getting your workout in with your favorite studio, there are so many ways to support and shop local during these closures.  If you have any other suggestions or are a small business, let us know how we can help!
